Just received word from Reporter Michael Cheang that my interview was published in The Star today.
I was sure that Michael had regretted wasting his time interviewing me, after discovering that I am just another goondoo in town, with nothing much to 'yaya' about my 'achievements'.
To see what I mean, just take a peep at The Star's 'Malaysians Abroad' collection.
Those terror Malaysians abroad include award-winning restaurateurs, high profile writers, beautiful movie stars, scientists dealing with leading edge research, classical music composers, and presidents of IT companies, among others.
I am just an aging 'Alok Setak' kampong boy lost in Japan.
Anyway, I thank and commend Michael for his skills in whipping up such an excellent 'dish' despite the poor 'ingredients' in me.
Gardening, photography, food, fishing, traveling, scuba diving, life in Japan, plus of course, news and views of being away from home...

Read the article and you sure had an interesting life. I am working in Kedah right now. The part about how lecturer's are highly regarded in Japan is quite interesting. In Malaysia that is not the case.

Michael… was so happy I woke up at 4.30 this morning… went out and water my seedlings and reported to my plants about what happened… they wept with joy…
Mr Kiasu… actually ah, I so shy to be interviewed after I looked up the ‘Malaysians Abroad’ column. Wanted to tell the Reporter to abort the flight… but lose also lah, like that…. So quietly continued with interview… then, one week passed… two weeks passed… three… four weeks… then, two months… I cursed myself, ‘see lah, I told you to tell him to abort the interview… becos ah, if put my interview in ah, the column sure jatoh the standard one loh…’
Li Ann… could this be what is called ‘woman’s intuition’? Hehehe… still kampong boy… and still not much achievement yet… as the Japanese say, ‘mada mada’ (not yet, not yet)

ReplyDelete博士論文作成の時、なかなか進まないので、長期間で頭ガンガンまで研究して、狂ってしまうのではないかと思った時もあった。
でも、苦労した分に今日は「ハッピー」のだ。

i am impressed! read the article about you in thestar online. it always feels great to know yet another malaysian in japan. reading your blog gave me new inspiration...at a time when i am at my lowest, here in japan. btw, i checked kagawa university website and found out that we were born on the same day but 23 years apart! coincidence... :):)
