INTERVIEW BY THE STAR

Just received word from Reporter Michael Cheang that my interview was published in The Star today.

I was sure that Michael had regretted wasting his time interviewing me, after discovering that I am just another goondoo in town, with nothing much to 'yaya' about my 'achievements'.

To see what I mean, just take a peep at The Star's 'Malaysians Abroad' collection.

Those terror Malaysians abroad include award-winning restaurateurs, high profile writers, beautiful movie stars, scientists dealing with leading edge research, classical music composers, and presidents of IT companies, among others.

I am just an aging 'Alok Setak' kampong boy lost in Japan.

Anyway, I thank and commend Michael for his skills in whipping up such an excellent 'dish' despite the poor 'ingredients' in me.

  2. Read the article and you sure had an interesting life. I am working in Kedah right now. The part about how lecturer's are highly regarded in Japan is quite interesting. In Malaysia that is not the case.

    Hello,

I read this news through thestar.com.my. It was a great and interesting life you had there. Touch about how much a person can accomplish in such a short life human had.

  8. Adam… thanks man. Just took a peep at your blog and was already laughing my head off reading the intro part of the cat story. Will catch up with your blog later as I actually have to prepare for an evening class today… don’t want to be caught with nothing worthwhile to mumble in front of the students…

8dee…truth is, I am actually quite a lazy guy… like to escape from the real duties and do the little, little, inconsequential things… to kill time…

corpsie… jalan teluk wanjah used to be my hideout… now, returned to Kampong Ah Piew (named after my grandfather) which is near Tokai and Simpang Empat… loves to eat Nasi Lemak Haji Ali and Mee Abu whenever I am back in town…

5xmom… yeap, just read your blog… how can I thank you, lady… belanja one mee rebus ok or not? Anyway, likewise, I am honored to get to know you too. I was actually going to give up blogging. Then you dropped me a line saying you enjoyed my underwater photos. So happy I ate three plates of rice that day...

I'm also an ex-Sultan Abdul Hamid College student. Now working in KL

Just read your article in the paper. Very happy to see a Kedahan succeed in Japan. Its like meeting an old "kampung" friend in a foreign land.

  14. Viewtru… thank you man… I congratulate you too… you look nice in that jacket… (kidding… kidding…)

Lim… my clansman… my kampong-mate… and my SAHC (rather than KSAH) comrade… very happy to meet you in cyberspace… have you ever attended the reunion of Ex-Collegians?

Krishna… Chief Entertainment Officer… that’s a good one… you must be having a ball of a time with your ‘E‘ business

Michael… was so happy I woke up at 4.30 this morning… went out and water my seedlings and reported to my plants about what happened… they wept with joy…

Mr Kiasu… actually ah, I so shy to be interviewed after I looked up the ‘Malaysians Abroad’ column. Wanted to tell the Reporter to abort the flight… but lose also lah, like that…. So quietly continued with interview… then, one week passed… two weeks passed… three… four weeks… then, two months… I cursed myself, ‘see lah, I told you to tell him to abort the interview… becos ah, if put my interview in ah, the column sure jatoh the standard one loh…’

Li Ann… could this be what is called ‘woman’s intuition’? Hehehe… still kampong boy… and still not much achievement yet… as the Japanese say, ‘mada mada’ (not yet, not yet)

As your mentor and coach on the computer programs I wrote for you behalf while we were struggling at Texas Tech, it is indeed good to see that you made something of your life in academia!

If you need any morale booster anytime, shoot me a line... can't fly you to the heavens, can't karaoke to you, but maybe can write a corny poem for you. Born on the same day??? Woooohhhh...
