Penang-born BBQ King in the making...

Not to say that you can get to yaya (show off) how 'terror' your friends are...
While yours truly is hiding away, keeping a somewhat low profile as a small time academician in a small time university here in Japan, an old buddy of mine is, yes, practically creating waves over the other side of the pacific... and he says he is just having some fun doing it as a weekend hobby...
Harry Soo, or 'aSua' to us 'goondoos' in the inner circle, hails from Penang.

About thirty years ago, we (tens and tens of us) were lucky to be picked up by Singapore Airlines to train as cadet pilots.

The 'oil shock' in 1981 put a stop to our dreams of operating in the cockpit, and Singapore Airlines gave us the option to operate as flight stewards while waiting for the economy to improve.
The economy went horizontal, and the company offered us study loans, which led many of us to the U.S. for further studies in the universities.
We had a ball of a time at Texas Tech University, doing cookouts and potlucks whenever we could.
Fast forward thirty years...
A couple of us left the U.S. for home, Australia, United Kingdom, or Japan (hey, that's me), but most of the gang chose to remain in the U.S.

We are very much in our own world now, although if fate have had its way, today, we could all have been co-pilots with Singapore Airlines.
We are now working in various sectors... IT, grains, engineering, own businesses, law, academia...
And golly, aSua... he keeps his day job in the IT industry and yet, he can do wonders...
SlapYoDaddy? What a name, I thought...
Although his cooking repertoire is no doubt impressive, his forte is BBQ... and over a series of continuous competitions since 2008, he seems to be winning and winning...
He probably needs to have a huge store room just to keep his trophies...
When I heard that the Wall Street Journal did a report on him, I said 'whoaaa'...

And how many hours does he have in a day, anyway?
I don't even have enough time to update my two blogs on a regular basis...
And where does he get all this stamina from? To travel all the way from his home in LA to competition venues in places hundreds and hundreds of miles away, prepare, cook, clear up, and then travel back all the way, and then, to go to work again on the following Monday?

So  go ahead, check out what wonders this friend of mine is doing with SlapYoDaddy...
No kidding, I say...

nice writeup. We did a TV segment for a Chinese TV station and will be doing another one for CA-TV that will reach 1.3 billion Chinese around the world on Jun 12. Stay tuned.
    Best,
