Typhoon Number 12 is slamming her way past Shikoku right at this moment...
This is the second typhoon to hit us this season...
Winds are menacingly fiery... rains, heavy and ballistic...
On a Saturday like today, I should be out in my potager...
And, why not take this opportunity to recall our scuba diving vacation at Mabul some time ago...
This was our third stay at the Sipadan Water Village...
The dozen or so dive boats there characteristically take on names that are 'lady-like'...
The gods were with us as days were really fine when we were there...
Scenes were thankfully, extra pretty...

From our 'little' experience diving over the years, we would say that this resort has just about the most well designed dive center...
We are fond of diving the house reefs, and entry into the dive sites here is very easy...
Which is one big reason why we are 'repeaters' in this resort...

The all wooden structures are actually very well built...
And well maintained, so far...
This time, we stayed in a chalet facing the village on the island...
Some Bajau Laut aka Sea Gypsies live on boats anchored off the island...
Each day, in between our dives and mealtimes, I had the pleasure of observing how they went about their lives...
I witnessed the boys brushing their teeth in the mornings...

I witnessed the boys brushing their teeth in the mornings...
the womenfolk cooking their breakfast at the kitchen...
And their hanging of the laundry by the side of the boat...

Still, the majority of the folks live on the island...
Relying mainly on fishing, their lives seemed so carefree...
Each morning, the little kids would paddle their boats...
Was impressed to see how skilled they were with the boats...

Love that last photo.:)
ReplyDeleteGosh, I wish I'm by the beach enjoying the sun and surf right now. :)
Hope all is well with you and wife. How's the potager holding up against the typhoon?
Still dare not go outdoors yet... the winds, ooh, sooo strong...
ReplyDeleteStay safe.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if you had a wonderful vacation spot. I've never been scuba-diving, but I think I would enjoy it. If I weren't diving I would certainly enjoy the beautiful scenery.
ReplyDeletelina... will surely do so...
ReplyDeleteGeorge... actually many non-divers do visit that resort just to enjoy the atmosphere, the scenery, the quiet, and the food (although there was clearly a drop in the quality and variety)...
Wow.Mabul is great and nice.
ReplyDeleteThere are many things to see and enjoy scuba diving. That's good that childrens can ride a boat themselves,.
cocomino... actually this place is very popular with Japanese divers...
ReplyDeleteA friend from the UK came with his wife and they enjoyed Mabul.Hope the residents take good care of Mabul. I enjoyed the pictures
ReplyDeleteKeats... each time we go, there are many Europeans in the crowd... it is really a lovely place....
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and serene place, so unlike our fast-paced life here! Reminds me a little bit of my childhood kampung days by the sea, how I missed those days!
ReplyDeleteHope the weather is better now! Take care!
kitchen flavours... indeed a very beautiful and serene place... my kampong was very far from the sea, so I envy your kampong..
ReplyDeleteCon't of your diving trip in BKI..nice sharing of the life style of the locals. Guess the little children learned to paddle before they know how to walk hahaha.
ReplyDeleteBananazஇ... sometimes I imagine that life should be like that... carefree and away from the hustle and bustle...
ReplyDeleteIs this in Malaysia? During our weekend escapades in Mindanao we were to a structure with fish cages and the name is Sipadan, someone told me its meaning in vernacular but i forgot. Then some indigenous people in Mindanao are called Badyao, we really have same origins!
ReplyDeleteAndrea...yeap, that was in Malaysia... think we do share similarities in quite a few words... 'anak' is also one of them...
ReplyDelete月圆圆,人甜甜。祝你越来越有钱。
ReplyDeleteyuè yuányuán, rén tiántián。zhù nǐ yuè lái yuè yǒu qián。
月光光,人双双。祝你心情多放宽。

贵人齐,小人离。祝你大利又大吉。

Looks like a lovely place for a vacation. Hope those who control the place don't get greedy and 'overload' it and spoil it all.
ReplyDeleteBananazஇ... uwaaah, you made my day, braddaa... so nice, this poem... thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteLC Teh... it is a lovely place indeed... but as expected, more resorts are coming up and I heard the water table is beginning to take its toll...
Wow..this is a fantastic spot to vacation, and so beautiful to see.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are wonderful!
Icy BC... for water cottages in Malaysia, this place is one of the best...
